– Councillors clash over sugar, rice industries
Yesterday, after about 10 hours of debate, Parliament approved more than $40.7 billion in additional financing, with several projects causing conflict, especially for the sugar industry.
During the 85th National Assembly session at the Arthur Chung Convention Center, the two sides clashed over $4.57 billion in emergency funds for the agriculture sector. The government requested the funds to cover expenses from April 1 to July 30, 2024, to stabilize the rice and sugar industries.
