The city hall has pledged to cover the hospitalization costs of injured protesters at the county-run hospital, as well as the mortuary expenses for the 12 bodies.
Executive committee member for health Susan Silantoi made the announcement as human rights groups said more deaths were going unreported following chaotic parliamentary breaches during Tuesday’s anti-Finance Bill (2024) protests.
Silantoyi confirmed that the city hall had confirmed that six bodies were found at the city mortuary and another six bodies were found at the Mama Lusi Kibaki Hospital.
“The mortuary attendants of the relevant funeral homes received the remains of the 12 people yesterday (Tuesday),” she said.
The county chief further confirmed that at least 51 people were treated and released from the county hospital.
She noted, however, that three people were still admitted to Mbagathi Hospital and seven to Mama Lusi Kibaki Hospital.
“Some of the patients admitted suffered soft tissue injuries and were discharged after treatment; however, 10 patients, three at Mbagathi Hospital and three at Mamalucsi Kibaki Hospital, and seven at Mamalucsi Kibaki Hospital, responded well to treatment,” Silantoyi announced.
