San Marcos– The Lion and the Bull shared the points in a duel that included many factors.
There were many emotions as the two goals scored by Marquense Deportivo and Malacateco on the fifth day of the 2024 Spring Championship and the return of the San Marcos derby to the National League were felt.
In the first minute, the Bulls showed an offensive proposal, especially Nelson Andrade’s shot was blocked by defender Carlos Estrada, then Yuri Perez and José Ochoa’s shots were blocked by Alexandre Marroquín.

The Lions were unable to create much danger, and they scored in the first period, with captain Marco Tulio Rodas blasting the ball into the corner with his right hand, 1-0.
The goal woke up the Border defense, but it also made goalkeeper Marroquin a character, as he carefully saved shots from William Amaya and Nelson Andrade.
But in the 30th, Walter López scored a penalty for the visitors and the game was tied. Raúl Calderón came to collect the ball and he made it 1-1 in a brilliant way.
The tide of the game tilted in the Cats’ favour in the second half and they quickly gave a warning with a Paulo Dantas free-kick that went wide before the Uruguayan’s shot hit the post.
Although the Border took the lead in the 55th minute, Nelson Andrade’s cross was blocked by Alexandre Marroquin, but he crossed in the middle and Angel López took advantage of it to score for the visitors, 2-1.
It didn’t take long for the Cats to equalize the score. In the 59th minute, Yasniel Matos passed the ball from the left and Charles Martinez tied the score at 2-2.
After the score, the game began to get into a rhythm, and the constant fouls on both sides also took their toll.
The Bulls were down to just 10 points in the 79th minute due to the dismissal of Jose Ochoa, while the Lions lost one of those points in the 83rd minute when Luis Andrade received a red card.
In the end, the match ended in a tie between Marcuse and Malacateco, with Eric Gonzalez’s team finishing eighth with five points, while Roberto Hernandez’s team continued their winless streak and finished tenth with three points.
