Chinese technology company KirinSoft launched its first AI-integrated Kirin operating system, or AIPC, at the 2024 China Operating System Industry Conference in Beijing. This is a major milestone for China’s first self-developed PC operating system incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), filling a gap in China’s operating system field in terms of edge reasoning capabilities.
The AIPC version of the Kylin operating system is an important link between the upper-level software ecosystem and the underlying hardware, helping to implement artificial intelligence algorithms, models and applications. Unlike the traditional global operating system that is monopolized by European and American companies, this progress demonstrates China’s rapid progress in operating systems and artificial intelligence technology.
China’s platform software market is expected to grow 17.4% to 81.66 billion yuan (about $11.3 billion) in 2023, with the operating system market growing 23.2%. Gao Dan, a consultant at CCID, attributes the growth to increased demand for server operating systems driven by digital transformation and the expansion of artificial intelligence.
The edge reasoning capabilities of the AIPC system enable complex AI tasks to be performed locally, thereby improving data processing speed and security. It supports a variety of applications, including autonomous driving, healthcare, and education, and is expected to improve user privacy, increase productivity, and increase innovation.
