A white paper released yesterday said China has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 3 billion tons in the past decade to promote green consumption.
The white paper “China’s Energy Transformation” released by the state shows that in the past decade, China has saved about 1.4 billion tons of coal, and industrial transformation and upgrading and carbon reduction technologies have greatly improved energy efficiency, according to People’s Daily, the city council’s communications department.
The document said controlling energy usage and intensity has become an important institutional measure in the country.
China has stepped up efforts to save energy and increase efficiency in key areas such as industrial production, construction, and transportation.
Over the past decade, the energy consumption per unit of added value of industrial enterprises with an annual revenue of more than 20 million yuan has dropped by more than 36%. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit of steel, electrolytic aluminum, cement, glass and other products has dropped by more than 9% on average.
By 2023, the total output value of the energy-saving service industry will exceed 500 billion yuan, doubling that of 2013.
In transition
As China undergoes the world’s largest urbanization process, it has imposed higher energy efficiency standards on new buildings and made steady progress in energy-saving retrofits of existing buildings, the national publication added.
By the end of 2023, the area of energy-saving buildings has exceeded 32.68 billion square meters, accounting for more than 64% of the total urban buildings, an increase of nearly 30 percentage points from 2013. Nearly zero-energy buildings have exceeded 43.7 million square meters.
By the end of 2023, the national new energy vehicle ownership will exceed 20.4 million, with nearly 8.6 million charging facilities and more than 450 hydrogen refueling stations.
In 2023, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit load of rail transit will be about 19% lower than that in 2013.
The country is also actively promoting green energy consumption models, encouraging renewable energy consumption, promoting electrification and low-carbon transformation of final energy consumption, and practicing a green and low-carbon lifestyle.
The white paper points out that both the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games will use 100% green electricity.
