Kathmandu, July 7. The UML has nominated Chetnarayan Acharya as the Chief Minister of Lumbini province. Earlier, UML parliamentary party leader Leela Giri was almost certain to become the Chief Minister, but Acharya was promoted on the instructions of the UML Centre.
UML state Congress party chief whip Tulsi Prasad Chaidhari confirmed that Acharya will be the chief minister. “The party had promoted Acharya as chief minister,” he said, “and now Acharya will be the chief minister.”
In an interview to Habar Online, the soon-to-be chief minister Acharya said that despite the party leader being Leela Giri, he will press for the chief ministership. He told Congress leader Dilli Chaudhary that after his arrival, he will go to the state CM.
Congress party leader Leela Giri is considered close to party vice-president and Union Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel. Leaders close to Paudel said that after Acharya became the chief minister, the Centre’s interests and direction came into play, suddenly leaving Giri, who was close to Paudel, behind.
With the Congress-UML coalition pact in place, Acharya will automatically get a majority.
