Miagedi, August 9. Areas around Beni Bazar were affected by floods due to rains on Saturday night.
Physical structures including a school, an ashram for senior citizens and roads were damaged due to the floods. Similarly, a vehicle was also washed away.
According to the District Police Department, Bolero jeep number G2CH 9355, which was travelling from Pokhara to Beni, was swept away by floodwaters at Kholsa, 1 Hulake, Beni City, under Baglung-Beni road. The passengers and the driver escaped with their lives.
Nine classrooms at the Panchkothe building of Jadbharat Sanskrit Secondary School in Beni were flooded.
Nepali Armed Police Force Gurmu Galeshwar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that after a landslide on the Beni-Jomsom road, water from ditches and drains flowed towards the settlement, leading to flooding in the neighbouring Pulhapulatya Annakshetra, a school and canteen at the Galeshwar senior citizen ashram.
DSP Nepal said armed police cleared the floodwaters during the night and local residents have been working since morning to clear floodwaters that entered classrooms and canteens.
Beni Municipality-8 Kalipul bus park and entrance area were also damaged due to flooding in Kholsa. The main road in Miyagedi has been blocked due to flooding and landslides.
Police Inspector Rajan Rayamazhi said Baglung-Beni road in Hulake, Beni-Jomsom road in Galeshwar, Beni-Darbang road in Agnikhet, Maldhunga-Beni road in various parts of Singa, Ghumwanema, Jaljala Rural Municipality were blocked due to landslides.
Police Inspector Rayamaji said the concerned local infrastructure development office has coordinated with the Beni-Jomsong-Korla road project to clear the landslide and maintain the road required for traffic operations.
Transport communications have been cut from the Beni district headquarters to rural areas, neighbouring districts of Baglung, Parbat and Mustang, and Miagedi.
