Calicut Urban Services Cooperative Bank said it will construct houses for 11 families who lost their homes in the Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslide in Wayanad district, subject to government approval.
The government or private agencies or individuals shall provide land for this purpose free of cost and the beneficiaries shall be nominated by the village panchayat, a press release said on Thursday. Each house will cost Rs 5 lakh. These eco-friendly houses will be designed in consultation with the National Institute of Technology Calicut and delivered within 120 days. The bank has also expressed its willingness to partner with similar projects funded by the government. The wife of Arjun, a Kozhikode truck driver who was reported missing in Shirur in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, will be given a job.
