I like the cartoon about bowness businesses on the comments page. Can you draw a cartoon about Marda Loop and Altadore businesses? If you can, it should include a lot of detours and construction signs. Today, a detour sign was put up on my lawn. I followed it and 3 other signs and ended up back home because all they did was send me in a big circle. 13 city workers and the yellow vest men and women were no help because they just directed me to another detour. 33/34th Ave and 17th to 22nd St SW is chaos.

Heading South

I’m still laughing at your comment on my letter Struggle to survive Say “Where are you considering for your new residence?” I’m 86 and no one wants me, but America loves our tech professionals and 400,000 head there every day. We lost 126,000 citizens in 2022. That’s a 70% increase in 10 years. Canadian families pay 45% of their income to federal, provincial and local governments. We educated them and we lost them to America. I may be old, but I understand why they’re looking south.

Why mislead us?

Did Mayor Gondek over-exaggerate the scope of the water crisis when the Bowness water main failed last week? Given that certain areas of Northwest Calgary, such as Silver Springs (where I live) and neighbouring communities, are served solely by the Bearspaw water treatment plant, there have been no interruptions to water service in those areas, and the water supply has not diminished since the Bowness failure. Why didn’t she mention this? Didn’t she know? Did no one tell her? Or did she deliberately hide this information from Calgarians and the media? All of the fellow Springers I spoke to were surprised to learn that our community’s water supply comes directly from the Bearspaw plant. Why didn’t Gondek exempt us from the current water restrictions? No amount of water conservation measures in Silver Springs and neighbouring communities will alleviate water shortages elsewhere in the city. So why subject residents of these communities to unnecessary inconvenience and hardship? Maybe, Mayor Gondek just wants all Calgarians to realize that the current water shortage is the biggest crisis the city has faced since the 2013 flood, and she will be our knight in shining armor, saving all Calgarians in the hope that they will show their gratitude by giving her a much-needed popularity boost, which she desperately needs.
