Baraka District Senior Resident Magistrate Joshua Nkhono today refused to grant bail to Lilian Matako and two other men suspected of wounding.
The men, including Mr Zuberi Chitete and Mr Ishmael Chitete, were arrested after they helped each other to punish a 9-year-old boy who stole K2,000 by tying him to a tree and pouring water on him.
The men appeared in court this afternoon and pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by the government in court.
The report said the child’s mother, 28-year-old Matako, who runs a business, allegedly left the money in her room one day but did not find it when she returned.
The police said this forced them to pressure the child until he revealed that he had stolen the money, which led to his collaboration with Zuberi and Ismail Chittet’s people to receive this punishment.
The hearing will continue on Friday, when the court will consider their bail applications.
The group came from the village of Kanubaka, who was the main chief of the Savali people in the same area of Baraka.
