Bukit Indah Johor Bahru Guide: What to do and where to eat

Bukit Indah’s commercial district is centered around the popular AEON shopping center and Lotus hypermarket, and is centered around an eight-hectare circular park with an 18-hole Frisbee golf course. South of Lotus Road is a small light industrial area dominated by car repair shops. Gated communities occupy most of the town, with low-density townhouses in the Bukit Indah 2 extension area to the north of the Pontian-Johor Bahru Expressway interchange and to the south.

Singaporean favourites like car washes, car repairs and spas tend to cost 10% to 30% more in Bukit Indah than in Nusa Bestari and further afield. A good rule of thumb is that the more Singaporean cars you see, the higher the price (and the more you’ll feel like you haven’t left home).

Interestingly, you won’t find any non-family-friendly nightlife in Bukit Indah, but Nusa Bestari has spas and KTVs, while Austin Heights’ main rival Taman Sutera Utama has more. Note that getting to the cafes, bars and clubs around Sutera Mall means a 30-minute drive from Bukit Indah, covering 6.5km during peak hours; not as bad as Causeway, but still.

what to do

Therefore, youngsters may prefer Austin Heights, Sutera Utama or the city center, but Bukit Indah is close to Legoland and is very family-friendly. Bukit Indah also has a huge park with three hills (the official website says six hills) that can be explored on foot or by ATV, which is unmatched even by Mount Austin.

1. Slay Park

This massive 150-hectare (343-hectare, according to the official website) park opened in 2017 as a peaceful Edenic haven during the pandemic, but has since surged in popularity. It now has two ATV rental operators, an open-air food court in the car park, two cafes and a luxury camping site.
