Botswana’s financial sector faces digital fraud spree
A recent TransUnion study revealed a sharp increase in suspected digital fraud cases in Botswana’s financial services sector, highlighting the sector as having the highest suspected fraud rate in 2023 and year-on-year growth.
According to the study, for financial services transactions where consumers are located in Botswana, the incidence of suspected digital fraud surged 196% year-on-year to 9.7% in 2023. This is the highest rate of suspected fraud and year-on-year growth among the industries analyzed.
