According to The Washington Post, former US President Barack Obama believes that Joseph Biden should give up his reelection bid. Although Obama supported Biden in the debate where Biden fell behind former President Donald Trump, he has been discussing the future of Biden’s campaign in depth, as the 81-year-old who served as his vice president twice should “seriously consider” ending his campaign because his chances of winning have been “significantly reduced.” The incumbent Democratic president is in self-isolation after testing positive for the new coronavirus. Other US media pointed out that Biden’s decision will be announced within a few days, possibly around the weekend.

According to The Washington Post, in some conversations, Obama “told people he was concerned that polls were moving against Biden, that former President Donald Trump’s electoral path was widening and that donors were abandoning the president.”

The Washington Post said that given Biden’s continued embarrassing performances in public, such as calling Vice President Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump” or calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “President Putin,” Obama’s concerns “will only become more serious.”

Regardless, Axios reported Thursday that there is widespread belief among Biden’s friends and allies that he will drop out of the race by the end of the week.

In addition to the growing pressure within the Democratic Party for Biden to step down, a recent survey found that 70% of Americans believe Biden should step down because his mental and physical condition is questionable for re-election. The Associated Press National Opinion Research Center’s Public Affairs Research Center also found that among Democratic voters alone, support for Biden’s resignation is as high as 65%.

For now, Biden is unwilling to withdraw, insisting that what happened in the debate was due to his boredom.

During the same BET show, Biden admitted he would only withdraw from the race on the advice of his doctor, and he also forgot Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s name and ended up calling him a “black person.”

While the most likely scenario is that Biden endorses Harris to take over, some in the party would prefer a new candidate. Harris would still have the support of Biden, Obama, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
