Washington: US President Joe Biden called on Americans to unite at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday (July 14) following the assassination of his predecessor and election rival Donald Trump.

“We have to come together as a nation to show who we are,” Biden said in televised remarks from the White House. He also said he had a “brief but good” conversation with Trump after Saturday’s shooting.

He said the motive for the assassination attempt against Donald Trump was unclear and called on people not to jump to conclusions.

“We don’t know the shooter’s motive yet. We know who he is. I urge you, please don’t jump to conclusions about his motives or his connections,” Biden said, adding that he would address the nation from the White House later in the day.

Biden said he will address the nation from the Oval Office tonight.
