July 14, Minsk/Corr. BELTA/. The international hockey tournament “Sirius Cup” for players under 17 years old has kicked off in Sochi, BELTA reporters reported.
The tournament was attended by youth teams from Belarus and Russia, as well as five teams from Russian regions. The winner of the Sirius Cup will be determined by the results of the round-robin tournament, where participants will play once against each opponent. In the first match, our hockey players played against representatives of the Ural Federal District. The Belarusian team ended the first period with a slight advantage, thanks to a goal by Artyom Shatnik. In the second and third quarters, our team evened the score – Alexander Dudic and Roman Raman scored, and Shatnik scored in double figures. In the final period, the Ural team reduced the gap by half, but failed to achieve more. The final score was 4:2, and the Belarusian U17 team won.
On July 17, Andrei Rashchinsky’s team will meet with their Russian U17 teammates, and the next day they will play against the Volga Federal District team. On Saturday our team will play against the Central Federal District, and on Sunday against the Siberian Federal District. The Belarus team will play the last match of the tournament on July 23 against the Moscow team.
Last month, at the Sirius Cup for ice hockey players under 16, Belarus took sixth place. A year ago, in Sochi, our players born in 2008 took seventh place. Belarus’ best result at this tournament dates back to July 2022, when the U17 team finished fifth with 6 points in six games -0-.
