The chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, supported the idea of banning the veil in Russia, noting that it is necessary to entrust this issue to lawmakers.
Bastrykin supported the proposal to ban the veil in Russia while speaking at the International Youth Legal Forum in St. Petersburg. A forum participant pointed out that some Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, ban religious clothing that covers the face, and some people who cannot wear the veil in these countries come to Russia and continue to wear it here. He asked the chairman of the Investigative Committee whether it would be possible to implement a similar ban in Russia.
“You should contact the State Duma, which I recently, not without guilt, called in different ways, although I must admit that these words were not my own, but I read them in the comments of social networks,” Bastrykin replied.
“The task of the State Duma is to pass a law prohibiting what you are discussing. It is prohibited there, and it is allowed here. Why?
