New Delhi: Riots broke out in Maharashtra’s Badlapur over the sexual assault of two minor girls in school, with angry residents starting pelting stones at the school where the incident took place.
The alleged sexual assault of two Class 4 girls in Bhadrapur, Maharashtra, has sparked widespread outrage.
The situation escalated further when angry residents, demanding justice, began throwing stones at the school, forcing the police to step in. The authorities used tear gas and other measures to control the crowd and restore order.
The protesters, dressed in black, targeted the school during the demonstration. After the chaos subsided, the police managed to arrest the perpetrators of stone throwing. The suspect has been detained and is currently being held at the local police station.
Police are continuing to investigate this attack and are working to maintain the peace in the community.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered a high-level probe into the incident and said a special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the case and severe punishment will be imposed on those involved.
“I take the Badlapur incident very seriously. We have set up a special investigation team to investigate the matter and we will also take action against the school where the incident took place. We are expediting the case and if convicted, no one will be spared,” Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told ANI on Tuesday.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a special investigation team, headed by senior Indian police official Arti Singh, at the rank of Inspector General of Police, to probe the matter.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said the entire state is outraged over the incident. “Two young girls were sexually assaulted inside their school in Bhadrapur, Maharashtra; the entire state is outraged and seeking justice. I once again urge the Rashtrapati Bhavan to approve the Maharashtra Shakti Penal Code so that no other child or woman faces this tragedy. It is shameful that the state government continues to disregard the safety of women,” Chaturvedi said.
She further criticised society’s attitudes, saying, “The incident took place on campus. The sick perverts in our society want women to dress ‘appropriately’, go out at ‘safe times’, work in ‘safe zones’ and be responsible for their ‘own safety’. What is your opinion on this?” Chaturvedi said.
Earlier, a massive protest broke out at the Bhadrapur railway station on Tuesday over the sexual assault of two minor girls at a school in Bhadrapur. During the protest, the protesters also threw stones at the police. The police deployed heavy guard to control the crowd protesting the incident.
“Local trains have been stopped at Bhadrapur railway station due to protest against the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a school in Bhadrapur,” said the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway.
