At 1:45 am on August 26, 2024, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the area between Castel del Rio, Fontanelice and Casola Valsenio in the province of Bologna. The epicenter was about 3 km southeast of Castel del Rio, with a focal depth of about 18-19 km.
The quake was felt by residents in nearby areas such as Imola, Faenza and Bologna, but no damage to buildings or people was reported. This area of the Apennines is prone to seismic activity, and tonight’s quake was part of a series of minor tremors recorded in previous days.
