The autopsy did not clarify the cause of death of a 7-year-old girl, who was eventually taken to Makarios – she was found floating unconscious in a swimming pool in Protaras
The official autopsy conducted today did not clarify the cause of death of the 7-year-old girl, who was taken to Makarios Hospital following a drowning incident in a hotel pool in Protaras in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to police, “Today, Tuesday, a forensic autopsy was carried out on the body of the 7-year-old girl at the Nicosia General Hospital by medical examiner Nicholas Charalambos. Samples have been taken for laboratory tests and the exact cause of death is being investigated.”
As Famagusta Police Department press representative Steve Theodoulou said, “Lifeguards, hotel staff and other participants in the pool have given statements. Statements from parents present are also expected.”
Citing the facts of the case, Mr. Theodulu said, “At noon on Sunday, August 4, the little girl was found unconscious in the swimming pool of a hotel in Protaras, where she was staying with her parents. Bystanders rescued the child from the pool and then took her by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, where she received first aid and recovered.”
The “little girl was then taken by ambulance to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia and during the transport she developed complications and was therefore intubated and put on a ventilator.” However, he said the seven-year-old died in the intensive care unit of Makarios Hospital at 10 minutes past 2 a.m. on Monday.
TAE in Famagusta continues the examinations.
