The patient was immediately examined, tested and given an ultrasound. An X-ray showed the eel was inside the abdominal cavity. A team of specialists began a colonoscopy to try to remove the foreign object from the body through the rectum. But to no avail.
The patient’s pain became increasingly severe, and the team of doctors decided to perform emergency surgery. During the operation, surgeons found a live eel about 65 cm long and about 10 cm in circumference in the patient’s abdominal cavity. The animal had bitten through the anus and then passed through the large intestine into the abdominal cavity.
The operation was successful and the doctors managed to save the patient’s life.
