Amarnath Pilgrimage: This year, for the first time in the history of Tibetan pilgrimage, more than 20,000 to 30,000 pilgrims climbed the holy cave at an altitude of 3,888 meters deep in the Himalayas every day to worship.
Today, a new round of pilgrims reached 24,978 people for the holy cave of Lord Shiva, taking the total number of pilgrims who visited the holy cave in the first six days to 130,262.
Such a huge crowd was able to make the climb only because of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO)’s tireless efforts over the past year to make both the roads wide enough for walking. The BRO even converted the Baltal Road into a road to Panjthani and opened vehicles to Panjthani, suggesting that Lord Shiva’s caves may become accessible to vehicles in the next few years.
According to sources, the government is planning to build a ropeway from Baltal to the holy cave, although the plan may take a few years to implement.
The pilgrimage welcomed many young devotees from across the country who came to Jammu and Kashmir for the reverent pilgrimage. They shared their impressions of the picturesque sights along the way and praised the itinerary, food and facilities for making their journey truly memorable.
The 52-day holy pilgrimage, which began on June 29 and ended on August 19, the day of Rakshabandhan, is one of the most revered and important ‘Char Dham’ pilgrimages in Hinduism, amid tight security.
