On the night of Friday, July 19, the Air Force stepped up its flying-in-the-darkness skills, the Department of Defense reported.

This exercise is crucial to preparing for action.

The staff must be able to handle all situations, whether it is conflict management, disaster management, supporting the Suriname Police Force or any other civil authority. This also applies to situations with poor visibility or darkness.

Flying in darkness requires additional skills, such as night navigation and orientation, communication, operating under pressure and decision-making skills. The ministry said the exercise was a great success despite some organizational complications.

Complaints about low-flying helicopters were received across Paramaribo on Friday night. This may be why.
