JSC informed the “Delfi” portal that last weekend a 13-year-old teenager in Latvia was electrocuted while repairing an electrical device that was not turned off with his own hands.Distribution ChannelsRepresentative Alina Silvernick.
According to Sildenica, the young man received an electric shock from touching an uninsulated wire, which led to temporary clinical death. The victim was taken to the hospital. JSC “Sadales tīkls” reminds you that electrical engineering repairs must not be carried out without disconnecting the power supply – such actions endanger life!
If an electrical appliance is damaged and needs repair, it is best to entrust the repair to an electrician. However, if you decide to repair it yourself, you must first disconnect the electrical device from the power supply. electricity When carrying out work inside the house, you should also remember to disconnect the power supply by disconnecting the relevant electrical safety switch or “plug” during which the wiring behind the plaster may be affected, such as by driving pins or nails into the wall, reminiscent of the “distribution network”.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first case of electrocution in Latvia, where someone was electrocuted while repairing live electrical equipment. A few years ago, a 54-year-old man died while repairing a damaged pump cable, when the voltage was not high. The power was cut off, while a 34-year-old man was electrocuted while carrying out repairs in a house without power supply. Whether it is recklessness or carelessness, but every year sociological surveys also show that this should become a matter of course – “Turn off the power! The opposite behavior can lead to loss of life”, emphasizes Artūrs Šmats, electrical safety expert at the “Sadales netas” learning center.
In order to raise awareness of electrical safety issues among children and adolescents, “Sadales tīkls” conducts various electrical safety information campaigns every year, including the Electrical Safety Pioneer campaign, which has been running for many years within the company – employees voluntarily go to educational institutions to learn and give electrical safety lectures throughout Latvia. The website “arelektribuneriske.lv” created by “Sadales nettas” is a valuable resource for electrical safety education for children and adolescents, where you can find educational materials for children and adolescents of different ages. These materials can be used both in the learning process at school and in conversations between parents and children.
Sadales tīkls reminds: If an electric shock accident occurs in a place, the power supply must be immediately turned off, the power safety switch must be disconnected or the damaged electrical equipment must be unplugged from the socket. If the power supply is not turned off and the rescuer rushes to rescue the victim, he or she may also be injured. When the power supply is interrupted, call 113 immediately for emergency medical assistance.
It is important to remember that a person is not always able to assess the severity of an electrical injury, so if you are shocked you should seek medical attention. If the victim is unconscious, first aid should be administered as soon as possible before medical personnel arrive.
If the electric shock occurs outside the premises power supply In infrastructure, you should not approach the victim or allow other people to approach the site under any circumstances – you must keep a distance of at least eight meters. The only way to help is to call 112 for help – the emergency services will do everything they can to disconnect the voltage at the site as quickly as possible and provide assistance to the victim.
