Construction of a nine-storey sports complex in Macau’s New Town Area A will begin in the first quarter of next year, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP in Portuguese) said. Announce.

The facility, currently known as the A9 Sports Complex, will reportedly house four gymnasiums, a 25-meter swimming pool, six badminton courts, two basketball courts and a table tennis court. It will also have two levels of underground parking. DSOP said the complex will have a total floor area of ​​approximately 12,500 square meters.

The project was launched for tender in June, with 21 companies bidding. According to DSOP, bids ranged from MOP241 million to MOP270 million. Each company proposed a construction period of about 880 working days (equivalent to nearly three and a half years).

Most of Zone A (from the northern end of the Friendship Bridge to the Outer Harbour ferry terminal) has been earmarked for public housing, with a 2,000 square metre plot set aside for a sports centre.

The first building to be completed in Zone A is a nine-story municipal complex that includes a wet market that was completed last October. The area will eventually also include a nursing home, schools, a health center and other community facilities.

The DSOP noted that a recent tender for the elderly care facility also attracted 21 bidders. The project was originally scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year.
