Dev Manraj died on Monday, June 17, at the age of 75. Born on March 30, 1949 in Mauritius, he was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GOSK).
The former Financial Secretary has worked in the Ministry of Finance for more than 30 years. He started his career in the Civil Service as a Senior Accountant in 1974. He rose through the ranks and held several positions until 1990, becoming Financial Secretary this year.
Dev Manraj holds a degree in International Management from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. Dev Manraj is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).
Dev Manraj has served as the chairman of several government or semi-government companies, e.g. State Bank of Mauritius (SBM)Mauritius State Insurance Company (SICOM), Mauritius Offshore Business Activities Authority (MOBAA), Airport Development Corporation Limited (ADCO), Mauritius Airports Limited (AML), Business Park Mauritius Limited (BPML).
The financial giant has also left its mark on flagship projects such as Cybercité d’Ébène.
Dev Manraj is one of the promoters of Financial Services Board, National Investment Corporation, Economic Development Board and most recently Metro Express Ltd among many others.
Until recently, he was Chairman of Air Mauritius, a Director on the Board of Mauritius Telecom Limited, a Director on the Economic Development Board, a Director on Metro Express Limited and a Director on Airport Terminal Operations Limited, among others.
In terms of ties with other countries, Dev Manraj was involved in the conclusion of agreements such as the Double Taxation Agreement.
That is, he is the alternate president of the World Bank, representing Mauritius.
