Islamic Council Speaker Mohammad Bakr Qalibaf returned to Tehran tonight (Friday, July 22) to attend the BRICS Parliamentary Meeting after concluding his trip to St. Petersburg.
The Chairman of the Islamic Council later stated in an interview with reporters that the BRICS countries have more than half of the world’s population and 30% of its economic capacity.
Ghalibaf said the BRICS countries are creating parallel institutions, such as financial messaging systems like SWIFT.
He added: BRICS bilateral transactions are all conducted in non-US dollar currencies. Most of the major economic powers in Eurasia are BRICS countries.
The Speaker said: We took this opportunity to discuss bilateral issues with countries such as Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia.
He went on to say: Bilateral issues between Iran and Russia were followed up in meetings with Putin and the heads of the State Duma and the Federation Council of Russia.
He said that the issues discussed by the two sides included the North-South Corridor, cooperation in the energy field, etc. In the BRICS field, not only economic issues were discussed, but also cultural, sports and scientific and technological issues.
Noting that his visit to St. Petersburg was one of the most successful and effective in the field of action, the Speaker said: We hope that the results of this visit will be reflected in people’s lives.
Kalibaf stressed that there are important and fundamental countries among the BRICS, and there are generally serious things to say in the economic field.
He went on to say: We attended the 10th BRICS Leaders’ Meeting in St. Petersburg.
The Speaker said that many Central Asian countries attended the BRICS meeting during Russia’s chairmanship, and he pointed out: The most important discussion we had at the BRICS meeting was very serious and important, which was the unilateral sanctions of the United States, which are not recognized by international law.
