Kathmandu, July 24. Weather experts say weather conditions have improved compared to the previous two days, but as the monsoon season continues, heavy rains and damage are still possible in some areas.
The weather forecasting department of the hydro-meteorological bureau issued a red alert for July 22-23, saying 34 districts would be at high risk. Senior meteorologist Raju Pradhanang said that this situation does not exist at the moment. “There is no red alert like yesterday,” he told the online news.
The department issued a special notice on the 21st, asking for vigilance, and from the 22nd to the 23rd, 34 areas were high-risk and 36 areas were medium-risk. The government also issued instructions not to run night buses in high-risk areas.
At that time, the monsoon depression line was moving towards Nepal. When the monsoon depression line moved northwards from the Sardar location, it was over Nepal and Nepal received more rainfall. Now, the monsoon depression line has moved to the Sardar region (southwards from Nepal). Therefore, meteorologists say there is no extreme risk like the previous day.
Therefore, the water level in Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries and Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti and Babai rivers will remain below the warning level for the next three days, the forecast department said.
Now in Kathmandu Valley, it is sometimes sunny and sometimes cloudy. According to meteorologist Pradhanang, it will be generally cloudy in the country today. Besides, there is a possibility of rain in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpasham divisions and parts of Madhesh division. “This situation will continue for another three to four days,” said senior meteorologist Pradhanang.
Sindhupalchok district received heavy rains on Wednesday night.
