Two ISIS terror suspects were arrested. Chemical substances were seized from a 19-year-old man from Lower Austria. That evening, organizers announced via Instagram that all three Taylor Swift concerts were canceled.

There was a sensation in Vienna on Wednesday evening. Organizers said on Instagram: “Since government officials have confirmed a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel three planned performances for the safety of everyone.” The cancellations followed large-scale police raids in the Lower Austrian city of Ternitz (Neunkirchen district) and the federal capital on Wednesday morning.

Officers from the Cobra anti-terrorist unit raided the apartment of a 19-year-old Austrian in the community center of Lower Austria in the morning. The man was arrested. What happened in Ternitz in the next few hours is enough to illustrate the explosive nature of the investigation. Officers from the demolition service were also on duty. A safety zone was marked around the house before the explosives experts began their work. 60 households were affected and part of the nursing home was also relocated. The town hall was opened to those who could not stay with friends and relatives. Food and drinks were provided there.

For hours, police remained tight-lipped about the sensitive investigation. It wasn’t until Wednesday evening that Public Security Director Franz Roof informed the public: The suspect had been radicalized on the Internet and he “pledged allegiance to the current leader of the Islamic State,” Roof said. The house search was still ongoing, and the security chief would not provide any information about the amount and type of chemicals found on the young man.
