The match score was 24-21. Iran needed only one point to win the second set. But Usha Bhandari scored three points in a row to help Nepal tie the score at 24-24. Even so, Iran came close to set point twice.
The thrilling match was tied at 26-26. On a pass from setter Aruna, Niruta cut through two Iranian blockers and pushed the ball to the front line, pushing Iran’s chances of a possible win to one point. She hit the same spike again to win Nepal 28-26 in a thrilling victory. Niruta won the last three points in the second set.
Niruta also played well in the third set, chasing Nepal to 12-8. He received great support from Saraswati Chaudhary and Usha Bhandari.
Nepal beat Iran by 14 points to take the lead. The match was tied again at 17-17, but there were no chances after that. The last point was from Niruta as Nepal won 25-20. She scored the highest 22 points on Saturday to beat India for the first time in history. Niruta scored 14 points against Iran on Tuesday.
Opener and main attacker Niruta said that the team has the utmost confidence in him. “I have been watching this place to play. It can also be locked in”, she further said.
Niruta, who hails from Dharchula, represented Far West in the volleyball competition at the 7th National Games in 2073. After leaving a good impression in the competition, she was signed by the Tribhuvan Army Club. In 2019, she left the Army Club for personal reasons.
She was a member of the Nepali team when they won the AVC Asian Central Zone Championship for the first time in 2019 and won the silver medal in the 13th Sager Tournament. After joining APF in 2020, she also performed well in the domestic volleyball arena. She was not in the team when Nepal won the Central Zone Championship in 2021. After that, she worked harder and participated in the Kawa and Asian Games in China last year.
This time in her home uniform, she performed as strongly as ever, starting in all matches and every set.
Coach Jagdish Bhatt knows Niruta very well. It was Jagdish Bhatt who got him to join the Army club. Jagdish, the current head coach of the women’s team, believes that Niruta is a player with good mentality and timing in the team.
