The Kenyan Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has urged Kenyans in Lebanon to urgently register for evacuation as fears of war grow.

As concerns grow about widening conflict in the Middle East, some countries have urged their nationals to leave Lebanon.

Iran has vowed “harsh” revenge against Israel, blaming it for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday.

There are concerns that Lebanon-based Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, could play a major role in any such retaliation, which in turn could trigger severe Israeli retaliation in Lebanon.

At around 00:25 local time on Sunday (22:25 BST Saturday evening), Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at the northern Israeli town of Beit Hillel.

Hours before his assassination, Israel killed Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut.

The department released links and emergency contact details in a statement released on Tuesday to facilitate the registration process.

“Please register urgently through this link: https://tinyurl.com/2m9nw4ww or call +96590906719/+96171175006/+254114757002 for evacuation,” the department said.

It also called on those who could to move to safer areas inside Lebanon and those who were able to leave the country to do so.

The U.S. State Department instructed Kenyans with family in Lebanon to call the number provided, +254114757002, to facilitate security coordination.

They can also visit the department’s office located on the ground floor of the Old Mutual Building along Upper Hill Road.

It added: “We also ask Kenyans abroad to help take this message to as many people as possible, especially our brothers and sisters in Lebanon.”

For further information and assistance, the department urged Kenyans to continue to monitor its social media pages for the latest information/

The Kenya Diaspora Affairs Ministry has assured Kenyans abroad that their safety is its top priority.
