The State Power Corporation Limited and Dhaka State University have signed an agreement to conduct a scientific study to identify ways to save electricity. The study will evaluate data from the past 10 years.
Managing Director Hussain Fahmi signed the agreement on behalf of Stelco at a special ceremony held at Dhaka National University. The agreement was signed on behalf of Dhaka National University by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arun Kumar. Aisha Shehnaz Adam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Stelco Managing Director Hussain Fahmi said the company would allow the use of its systems and resources to conduct scientific research in an independent and fair manner. He said he had no doubt that the national university would conduct the research very thoroughly.
He said scientific research on how to save electricity would greatly facilitate future development.
“People are divided on the issue of high electricity bills. We strongly urge you to conduct independent, impartial scientific research and publish it. We will provide you with all the information we can without any restrictions,” said Stelco Managing Director Fahmi.

NUS Vice-Chancellor Dr. Aisha Shehnaz said the study aims to provide solutions to issues of concern to the people based on statistics and available information.
The study will also compare bills issued, meter readings and bill amounts from 2014 to 2024, Shehnaz said.
“One of the main goals of this research is to find ways to adequately address these issues. We are working to determine how electricity is used at different times of day, whether there is a seasonal relationship, and how to improve the accuracy and transparency of Stelco’s billing process,” said Dr. Shenaz, Vice President of Montana State University.
The main objectives of such studies are to study the root causes of various billing issues, understand electricity consumption patterns and the impact of climate change on them, and identify policy changes to improve transparency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction in the billing system.
Therefore, the study will determine the electricity consumption patterns of different categories of customers (residential, commercial, industrial), peak electricity consumption times, and the impact of climate change on electricity consumption patterns.
The company will also be able to identify and quantify billing errors and determine areas where customers can reduce electricity consumption and lower costs.
