The search is on for an inspiring leader to chair the forthcoming UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Isle of Man (UBIOM) Governing Council and help the island maintain its unique status by 2026.
The Isle of Man was designated the world’s only national biosphere reserve eight years ago after the global organisation recognised its commitment to sustainable development, biodiversity and cultural heritage by promoting international cooperation through education, science and culture.
The successful candidate will lead the Board over the next two years and will undertake regular reviews which will assess the Isle of Man’s performance against its original application and determine its vision for the next 10 years.
The review will demonstrate the Isle of Man’s commitment to balancing the needs of the environment, economy and community for the benefit of present and future generations.
Environment, Food and Farming Minister Clare Barber MHK said:
“This important role provides us with an opportunity to create a lasting legacy at a critical time.
“The successful candidate will serve as ambassador and will therefore have to be a strong and politically astute leader with a deep understanding of our environment, community, culture and economy. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future and have a significant impact on the island’s global sustainable development position.”
Interested candidates may submit their resume and cover letter to biosphere@gov.im Before August 22; For more details visit the Isle of Man Biosphere website.
