HD. Two foreign workers working on the Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project were shot dead last night.
Two foreign employees working on the Hanimadu International Airport development project have been arrested for allegedly fighting with weapons.
The incident took place at around 8 pm. One person was injured in the incident and is being treated at the Hanimadu Health Centre.
An official at the Hanimadu Health Centre told Theiladun that the foreign worker was brought to the centre with a bruise on his ear and no serious injuries.
The man was reportedly hit by a mortar attack.
Thousands of foreigners are working at the Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project. They are Indians.
Such conflicts have occurred in the past among employees working on the project.
The project has been awarded to India-based JMC Projects Limited, which has been carrying out various apartment construction and water and sewerage projects in Sri Lanka.
