Voting for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) constituency by-elections has begun.

The re-election will last until 9 pm.

MDP Chairman Abdullah Shahid said that MDP has always been the strongest party in the country’s democracy.

“It is the only party where members have a direct say in the party’s management,” Shahid explained.

Shahid called on the members of the Democratic Party to come out and vote in this election.

The by-election is being held today to elect the party’s candidate for the vacant parliamentary seat.

The MDP will also elect chairpersons for the municipalities. The candidates for municipal council chairman are Malay Municipality Mayor Adam Azim and former councillor Mohamed Farah. Meanwhile, former members Abdul Mujini and Ahmad Ghaith are running for the post of Tonadu Municipality chairman.
