The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reports that as of August 1, two cases of West Nile virus infection have been confirmed. These cases were reported in a person in the 60-69 age group and an 80-year-old man. The two people are from Bucharest and Mureș County, respectively. The recommendations for the public are as follows:
* Wear long-sleeved clothes and long pants to avoid contact with mosquitoes; * Use chemical repellents to repel mosquitoes;
* Prevent mosquitoes from entering the house (through protective screens on windows); * Ensure drainage of puddles around the home; * Clear containers of stagnant water and household waste from the home.
