MILAN: Italian app developer Bending Spoons has acquired file-sharing platform WeTransfer, the two companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday, as the Milan-based tech company moves forward with a series of deals for software companies.

The deal is Bending Spoons’ fifth acquisition this year, and financial details were not disclosed. In February, Bending Spoons raised $155 million in a capital increase that valued the company at $2.55 billion.

WeTransfer’s owners, which was founded in the Netherlands in 2009, said at the time it had sought an initial public offering in Amsterdam with a target valuation of 716 million euros in 2022, but scrapped the plan due to market volatility.

WeTransfer, a service that allows users to transfer large files online, has 600,000 users and 80 million monthly active users, according to the statement.

In early July, Bending Spoons acquired Issuu, a digital publishing platform that converts documents such as print magazines and books into digital publications that can be read online.

The move follows the company’s acquisition of live-streaming app StreamYard in May and earlier this year’s purchase of the digital assets of Mosaic Group and Meetup, a social network with 60 million members worldwide for organizing physical and virtual events and meetups.
