The scam began on June 21 when the lawyer received a call on WhatsApp from an international number.

A well-known criminal lawyer specializing in cyber cases has been duped by an online fraud syndicate and lost Rs 93 lakh. The fraudsters duped the lawyer from Trivandrum, Kerala, into believing that he could get good returns by investing in the stock market. The scam against the well-known lawyer took place between June 21 and June 27. The Cyber Police has launched an investigation into the matter.
The victim of the scam is a senior lawyer representing central agencies such as Customs and the National Immigration Service. The scam began on June 21 when the lawyer received a call from an international number on WhatsApp. The caller convinced him that he could make huge profits from stock market trading. The lawyer was then added to a WhatsApp group called “Club 88” and instructed to install a mobile application called “Block Tigers”.
The lawyer received a second call asking him to deposit Rs 5 lakh in two installments. The caller falsely claimed that the deposits would bring him lucrative stock trading profits, leading the lawyer to invest more money.
The lawyer had transferred a total of Rs 93 lakh to various bank accounts till June 27, after which the accused could not be contacted. The lawyer eventually realised that the promised profits were a fraud and filed a complaint with the cyber police.
