Nairobi Police has successfully cracked down on a notorious gang of thieves targeting locked cars and nabbed a gang of four that stole a car worth Kshs 850,000 in Langata.
The arrest follows an extensive investigation following a report received at Langata Police Station.
On July 17, 2024, a resident of South C-Green Estate 2 reported that money he had withdrawn from a local bank was stolen from his locked car. The victim left the cash in the car while shopping at Uchumi Supermarket in Langata.
When he returned, he discovered his car had been broken into and the money he had put in a khaki envelope was missing.

The gang was captured on CCTV footage from a nearby business. The footage showed them breaking into cars and fleeing with the money. Elite CRIB and Operations Unit detectives swung into action and launched an investigation.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Shaban Maingi Rashid, Steve Malvin Njagi, Johnson Muisyo Mbingu and Mashud Onyango Dax.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was driving a Suzuki Swift with license plate number KDH 154B. A search of the vehicle revealed a master key and another license plate number KDP 989N, which matched the vehicle’s insurance information.
The detectives also found that Shaban Maingi Rashid had committed similar crimes in Langata and was currently facing court.
