North Ayrshire Council has been named a ‘nurturing-friendly employer’.

The council has updated its special leave scheme to provide greater flexibility for staff to explore foster care opportunities.

Employees who are foster carers (or are interested in becoming foster carers) and kinship carers can now take advantage of leave as detailed below:

  • Assessment and initial training before approval as a foster carer – up to three days
  • Attendance group approval – one day maximum.
  • Children’s review meeting, annual foster carer review meeting and training – up to five days.
  • North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership is currently seeking foster carers, with a range of options available including short-term care, supported care, temporary fostering and long-term fostering for young people.
  • If you would like any further information please email the team at adfosenquiry@northayrshire.gov.uk or call 01294 310300 (option 4 then option 1).
  • You can also find out more information on the NAHSCP website.

Meanwhile, a pan-Ayrshire showcase event was recently held to share examples of health and social care innovation from across Scotland and beyond.

Focusing on two innovative perspectives in Scotland’s health and social care sector, attendees heard from Nate Brown, Head of Innovation Programmes at HSCP East Ayrshire, and Brendan Clarke, Head of Digital Learning at NHS Education Scotland.

Alexia Pellowe from East Ayrshire HSCP presented the Holly Health App, Laura Gordon from Inverclyde HSCP demonstrated their new health visiting app and Nigel Gallear from Simon Community shared feedback on their Get Connected App.
