Obuljen Koržinek believes it is important to remember the important international project of restoring the Old Bridge.
– By the way, in 2004 I personally went to Mostar together with the then Minister Bozo Biškupić. I remember how the completion of the renovation was solemnly celebrated. For us in Croatia it is always extremely important to emphasize the extent of the participation of the Republic of Croatia and Croatian specialists in the restoration of the bridge. During the Homeland War and the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia lent a hand and took in refugees, and is the country through which all aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina passed, said Objan Korzinec.
Old Bridge and Monument to the Croatian People
Kozinek also added that Croatia has made a great contribution to the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also reminded that the Republic of Croatia participated in the reconstruction of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the symbols of which is the Mostar Bridge.
– Croatia made a financial contribution here, but the entire design team is also from Croatia. The reconstruction work could even start thanks to the documents provided by Croatia. The company doing the renovation is from Croatia, and of course, since I am from Dubrovnik, I have to remember that the original bridge was also built by stonemasons from Dubrovnik. “Obuljen Koržinek commented that the Old Bridge in Mostar is an important monument to the Croatian people and to the contribution of the Croatian people to the history and present day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In a conversation with Tihomir Sutala, editor and host of Dnevnik RTV Herceg Bosna, Objan Korzynek noted that regional cooperation on such and similar projects is very important, especially in times of major crises and wars.
– We are aware that there are instabilities in our part of Europe and in this narrower region of Southeast Europe. In this sense, cultural cooperation is a space that can connect people who cannot communicate in other forums. This is why international organizations are also present, said the guest of Dnevnik RTV HB.
Croatia is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most loyal supporter
Kozinek also noted that the Republic of Croatia has supported Bosnia and Herzegovina so far and will continue to do so in the future.
Kozinek noted that “our common success lies in the start of negotiations, and we will be the most loyal supporters of all processes on the road to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s full integration into the European Union.”
The Government of the Republic of Croatia allocates significant funds through various programmes to help Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A particularly important investment for HNK Mostar
Obuljen Koržinek noted that Croatia will invest about 90 to 100 million euros in Bosnia and Herzegovina next year in programs, projects and institutions for Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In addition to culture and education, there are grants for healthcare and other strategic projects. We also support the operation of YOU TV. Of course, investing in the Croatian National Theatre in Mostar is especially important for us,” says Obuljen Koržinek, explaining that they have a good collaboration in building this new cultural centre for Croatians and all others involved in these programmes.
The guest from Dnevnik RTV HB pointed out that the Croatian National Theatre in Mostar also has good cross-border cooperation with theatres in the Republic of Croatia.
“Mr. Vukoja (Ivan, director of the Croatian National Theater in Mostar, i.e. RTV HB) is very dedicated, professional, working with his team and great actors, he realizes a great show in the current space and environment. We really give our full support,” Obujen Korzynek noted.
The media is responsible
When asked how important the media is in a democratic society and in the process of joining the European Union, Kozinek said that the media has always been important and there would be no democratic society without the media.
“In this age of misinformation, fake news, consuming content on social networks that people think is media, but in fact is not media because they have no editorial responsibility – it is extremely important to develop, preserve and invest in professional media and professional journalism in every country,” said Minister Obuljen Koržinek.
Croatia’s Minister of Media and Culture noted that the role of “middle media”, i.e. mainstream media, in raising awareness of the importance of various political processes, including Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the European Union, is crucial.
– I also invite you to work with Croatian colleagues. We went through this process 10-15 years ago when we joined the EU. Therefore, provide as much information and explanations as possible so that citizens can really make a decision with real sources, Obujen Korzynek stressed.
Croatia will continue to support Croatian-language media
RTV Herceg-Bosne has an agreement with Croatian Radio and Television (HRT). Asked what role HRT plays in reporting on what happens to Croats outside the Republic of Croatia, Objen Korzinec said she also spoke with the director of RTV in Bosne and said they should further strengthen this cooperation.
“Croats are a constituent ethnicity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Here it is extremely important that Croats, as a constituent nation, exercise their right to a Croatian language media that will produce content that is attractive to everyone, but in Croatian and fully inform about activities in all areas; politics, culture, sports, education, etc. So, in all areas of interest to citizens, but in Croatian. That is why HRT, as well as the Republic of Croatia, will continuously support the work, survival and development of Croatian language media”, says Obuljen Koržinek.
