The Secret Service has advised Donald Trump’s campaign to stop holding large outdoor rallies following the assassination of the Republican presidential candidate. The Washington Post reported the matter, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. For upcoming events, Trump’s team is looking for indoor venues that can accommodate thousands of people, such as stadiums.
Neither the Secret Service, which protects senior U.S. politicians, including current and former presidents, nor the Trump campaign would comment, the newspaper reported.
A week ago, a gunman opened fire on Trump during an outdoor campaign event in Butler. The perpetrator was shot dead by security forces. In recent days, the Secret Service’s actions have been strongly criticized because despite all the security measures, the gunman was still able to reach the roof and have a direct view of the stage. On Tuesday, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle finally took action and resigned.
