July 8, Men. Kyrgyzstan wins the Kava U-20 Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Kyrgyzstan beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in straight sets to become the champions in the final held at the Indoor Hall of Male’ Social Center on Tuesday.
Earlier in the group stage, Kyrgyzstan lost 3-2 to Sri Lanka in a tight five-set match. Inspired by captain Roya, Kyrgyzstan avenged their defeat in the league stage with a brilliant performance in the final. Sri Lanka remained unbeaten in the league stage, winning all three games, while Kyrgyzstan won two.
Sri Lanka took the lead in the first set, but Kyrgyzstan led 28-26. Then they dominated Kyrgyzstan’s game and won three sets in a row. Kyrgyzstan won the second set 25-17 and the third set 25-19.
Rosa performed well as captain and spiker to help Kyrgyzstan win the championship and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Nepal defeated the host Maldives 3-0 in straight sets on Tuesday to secure third place. In the league stage, Nepal was ranked third behind Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan. Nepal’s chances of winning the title were ended when they lost to Kyrgyzstan in the semifinals.
