Agreement signed with China to build roads in Malayalam and Velimala

An agreement has been signed with the Chinese government to build roads in Malayalam and Velimala.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Beijing by Dhaka government on behalf of Construction Minister Arun Jaitley, Dr. Abdullah Muttalib. China International Development Corporation Chairman Liao Zhaohui signed on behalf of the Chinese government.

The Ministry of Construction said a feasibility study for the project will begin under the agreement. This is the first stage that needs to be completed to launch the project.

During President Dr. Muizumi’s official visit to China earlier this year, China provided Sri Lanka with a grant of US$130 million. The Malaya and Velimalai road construction projects are being carried out under this grant.
