MANILA: The Philippines and the United States will hold a 2+2 dialogue between foreign and defense ministers in Manila on July 30, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Monday (July 22).
The ministers are expected to discuss how to further strengthen their countries’ commitment to the alliance “to support a rules-based international order, strengthen economic ties, achieve broad-based prosperity and address solutions to evolving regional and global security challenges,” the EU foreign ministry said in a statement.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are expected to meet with Defense Secretaries Enrique Manalo and Gilberto Teodoro in the fourth such high-level dialogue since it began in 2012.
The meeting came more than a month after the Philippines and China clashed over Manila’s supply of Philippine troops on a disputed shoal in the South China Sea. Both sides have since agreed to ease tensions.
