To the relief of many, the Ministry of Health, succumbing to public pressure and complaints of inconvenience, will move the dental hospital in Thimphu Thaba back to the premises of JDWNRH.

The original idea of moving the dental hospital to Thaba was to improve services, said Minister of Health Pemba Wangchuck at the fourth press conference on behalf of the Minister of Health.

“We have heard a lot of complaints from citizens, and we fully understand. After realizing these problems, we decided to move the hospital back to its original site,” said Pemba Wangchuck.

Before the dental hospital moves back to JDWNRH, the gynaecology and paediatric wards and the National Health Service will move to the newly completed Mother and Baby Hospital.

Thimphu Taba Dental Hospital

The secretary said the project will take about six months to complete, adding that the building of the existing dental hospital in Taba will be used for other purposes, based on the government’s decision.

Initially, the dental hospital was relocated to Thaba to address the congestion and crowding issues at JDWNRH.

However, soon after the relocation, patients began to complain about the inconvenience caused by the relocation, especially for those coming from outside Thimphu. Some patients said they had to queue up in the early hours of the morning to get an appointment.

As the dental clinic is located far away, many patients also said that transportation is a big challenge.

Secretary Pemba Wangchuk said the dental hospital relocated back to JDWNRH would be able to address all issues raised by patients.
