Helsinki football club IF Gnistan of Finland’s top professional league Veikkausliiga announced on Sunday that they will play the remainder of their home games this season at the Töölö football stadium (Bolt Arena) in central Helsinki.

The club’s home ground is located in the Oulunkylä district of Helsinki. Destroyed by fire last weekend.

“We are delighted that this matter has now been resolved. Finding the best and quick solution for everyone in the middle of the busiest football season is obviously very challenging and necessary and will continue to require flexibility from all parties,” said IF Gnistan chairman Ilka Vanara Said in a press release.

Töölö Stadium is also the home ground of HJK Helsinki, which has won the Finnish Super League title for four consecutive seasons. Another option is to play the remaining home games of the season at the Myyrmäki Stadium in Vantaa.

“We made the choice based on the overall performance of the sporting event, the commercial package, the operation and accessibility of the tournament. A lot has been agreed in the short time with Töölö. However, there are still some issues that need to be resolved in the day-to-day operation of the team. I am sure that the City of Helsinki is willing to resolve the remaining outstanding issues as soon as possible next week,” Vanala noted.

IF Gnistan’s first home match in Töölö is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, when Vaasa’s VPS team travel to face the Helsinki-based team in a match that will also mark the club’s 100th anniversary.
