A tragic accident occurred in Corfu when a tourist bus crashed into a parked truck, killing the bus driver and injuring three passengers.
The fatal accident occurred at around 15:00 this afternoon in the Sgobo area of the island when a tourist bus carrying 18 British passengers veered off course – for reasons not yet clear – and crashed into a truck parked on the side of the main street.
The 31-year-old driver died as a result of the severe impact and three other people were injured: a British tourist and a mother with a child.
In fact, the entire operation had to be taken to rescue the mother and her child because the front of the bus was stuck on a parked truck, making rescue impossible.
Tourists admitted to hospital as a precaution
22 firefighters deployed in five vehicles tried to reach the scene and they rescued the unconscious driver from the bus carrying tourists, and also rescued an injured woman and a minor child who were taken away by an EKAB ambulance.
A person with a broken leg was taken to hospital, and other passengers on the fatal bus were also taken to hospital as a precaution. In particular, the mother and baby were admitted to hospital with fractures of the lower limbs and face, and are out of danger.
The Corfu Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of this tragic accident.
