The St James Municipal Corporation has presented Nigel ‘Nigy Boy’ Hector with the 2024 Silver Montego Bay Sumfest City Award for outstanding achievement in the field of entertainment. The visually impaired singer, often referred to as the Jamaican Stevie Wonder, was recognised for his perseverance in the face of adversity.
The reggae singer took to the Sumfest stage for the first time wearing a space suit and gave an otherworldly performance, marking a historic step for reggae music and Jamaica’s visually impaired community.
Nigy Boy from Flankers in Montego Bay said it was a proud moment for him, “It’s an honour to be here, I love the full circle of it all, my first performance is right where I was born.” During the performance he reminisced about his first time attending a reggae festival as a member of the audience and said it was great to be performing on stage now.
