Staab calls on Western allies to support Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression and imperialism | Yle News

The Finnish president met with other Nordic leaders as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a summit in the Swedish capital of Stockholm on Friday.

President of Finland Alexander Stubb Called on Western countries to “do their best” to help Ukraine win the war against Russia.

“The situation on the ground is critical. I call on all Western allies who support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and imperialism to lend a hand,” Staab said.

He also expressed the hope that “as many countries of the world as possible” would attend the peace forum scheduled for June 15-16 in Switzerland, which aims to reach a peace agreement and end the conflict.

“The question is how we can find a common path to peace,” he said.

Stuab made the comments at a news conference following a summit on Friday afternoon, which was also attended by other Nordic leaders as well as Ukraine’s president Vladimir Zelensky.

According to a press release from the Finnish presidential office, the summit’s agenda includes Russia’s war of aggression, Nordic support for Ukraine and regional security issues.

The press release also said that Staab will also hold a one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It has to be made clear to countries like Russia and leaders like Putin that aggression has consequences, and those consequences are that Ukraine is a European country, a member of the European Union, and a member of NATO,” Staab said at a news conference Friday afternoon.

In addition to the summit, Zelensky also signed a bilateral security agreement with Sweden in Stockholm, in which Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson pledged to provide Ukraine with additional military support totaling approximately 6.5 billion euros over the next three years.
