Kathmandu, July 6. Indian disaster relief teams have begun searching for two buses and their passengers that fell into the Trishuli River in the Martal area of Chitwan West.
A 12-member Indian team equipped with state-of-the-art sonar cameras and other equipment began searching around 10 am today.
At the request of the Nepali government, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of India arrived in Chitwan on Saturday. The team was briefed on the details of the incident at the Armed Police Disaster Management School at the Chitwan and Kulintar district administration offices on Saturday. The Indian team, which was stationed at the Armed Police Disaster Management School last night, began search and rescue operations this morning.
According to Chief Regional Officer Chitwan Indradev Yadav, the Indian team will stay in Nepal for a week.
Kunal Tiwari, the NDRF representative who came to search, said there would be no problem working here as he had also searched in India’s turbid and high-water Wahab River.
The Angel Deluxe bus travelling from Birganj to Kathmandu and the Ganpati Deluxe bus travelling from Kathmandu to Gaur were hit by a landslide at Simaltal in Chitwan around 3.30am on Friday, June 28. Two persons were missing after the buses fell into the Trishuli river following the landslide.
The two buses carried a total of 65 passengers, of whom three escaped safely, while 62 others were missing. As of last Saturday, 25 bodies had been found and 17 people had been identified. The fate of 37 passengers and the two buses has not yet been determined.
